Star Wars spacecraft. 2002-2003.
When my son was between four and six, he and I made a variety of different Star Wars spacecraft. As you can tell from the close up photos, some of these show real wear and tear from play.

Millenium Falcon. Cherry. 2003.
This is my favorite Star Wars model, because of the texture and detail we added.

Tie Interceptor. Cherry. 2002.

A-wings. Pine and plywood. 2002.

T-wing. Cherry and plywood. 2002.

Y-wing. Pine and plywood. 2002.
This is one of my favorites - very simple creation, but capturing the essence of the spacecraft.

X-wing. Pine and plywood. 2002.
I've made several x-wings over the years, and this was one of the most appealing models.

Tie Bomber. Pine. 2002.

Star Destroyer. Oak, Cherry and plywood. 2003.
An extremely simple verison of the Star Destroyer.

Z-wing. Pine and plywood.

Breyer Horse Jumps. Poplar dowels and Plywood. 2003.
While younger, my daughter Julia kept quite a stable of plastic Breyer horses. She used these jumps to keep them exercised. She and I also made two complete horse barns.

1860 Colt Army Revolver. Pine. 2007.
This rubber band gun is modeled after the 1860 Colt pistol, which was a common sidearm of cavalrymen in the Civil War. Designed and created with my son, Eli. The trigger (clothespin) is attached to a dowel which extends up through the body of the gun-- when you pull the trigger, the dowel depresses, releasing the rubber band.

The

Sharps Carbine. Pine. 2007.
A rubber band gun version of the carbine carried by many Union cavalrymen in the Civil War. Designed and created with my son, Eli.

Long swords. Oak. 2007.
I made these with Eli, and they already show some wear and tear. They commonly are carried through the woods or into the barn- note the dirt on the tips.

Machine Gun. Oak, plywood, PVC, and tin. 2004.
This machine gun fires wooden dowels, propelled by a screendoor spring-- turning the crank pulls back the firing pin, which then releases with each rotation. The basic design was copied from a book written in 1917.

Crossbox. Poplar, Cherry and Plywood. 2005.
This rubber band crossbow is modeled after those used by Wookies in Star Wars (but without the 'balls' at the end of the bow). The bow is simply for show on this version-- if fires rubber bands.

Henkel HE-111. Cherry. 2000.
Eli was very interested in airplanes as a toddler, so I created a series of three airplanes for him to play with. If you look close, you can see teeth marks.
